    I love polenta (was even adamant about having it at my wedding!), but have never made it from scratch.

      How did you have the polenta prepared for your wedding? I LOVE polenta. I guess technically I haven’t really made it from scratch because both times now I’ve microwaved it. But it was so dang easy (and tasty) I’m not sure I’d bother making it from scratch the long way.

    Yay for training buddies!

    And I certainly had to give up quite a few ‘social’ things when training! But also learn to fit them in around my training too!

      The only social things I really “give up” now are the last minute invites to things. My life is pretty structured and we have plans on the calender weeks in advance. Last minute things don’t usually work for either Michael or me. Which kinda sucks but sometimes that’s how it is.

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE polenta!!

    I am constantly challenged and pushed by my friends to keep up my fitness because they also enjoy running, biking, weights and yoga. I firmly believe that surrounding yourself with like minded people is the healthiest of living.

    I am willing to give up social gatherings for fitness, but not family time. Sleep…maybe.

      What do you do to your polenta? I love new ideas!

      And YES surrounding yourself with healthy people makes it so much easier. I love that Michael and I have some friends who like doing things like hiking and biking. It’s so cool to spend time doing an activity.

      I am less likely to give up sleep for fitness. That is the main reason I am so not a morning workout person. I’d rather sleep as late as I possibly can before getting up to go to work. Especially in the winter time.

    Where do you buy polenta (and in what section of the grocery store)? I have only seen it in pre-made rolls at Trader Joe’s. I have looked at Fred Meyer but couldn’t find any.

      I found the polenta in the baking section in Safeway. I’m sure it’s probably the same at Freddies. I usually buy the logs of polenta at Trader Joe’s.

    I’ve never had polenta, but I keep meaning to try it!

    I actually am not a good workout buddy. I like it to be my me-time and am completely focused on my own deal. I like group fitness classes, but I like going to them alone.I don’t want anyone else’s motivation (or lack thereof) to interfere with my workout.

      I am usually with you, Ashley. I prefer my workout time to be Me Time. But once in awhile it’s nice to have a buddy–especially when it comes to running. Having a running buddy helps me go further and not give up as easily.

    Hi Lisa! I’m so glad you had a good time at the gym. Right now I live away from friends and family so I usually work out alone but I often use a workout video with a funny instructor from the UK who makes me feel like I am in a group. But I can’t wait to get back to Canada to start exercising with my family. There’s nothing like it and like you said challenges you more and makes it more fun!

    It’s funny cause I made polenta on tuesday night for dinner. I’m a vegetarian so it’s adds a perfect ‘meaty’ consistancy to our meal (My husband is not a veggie) I put it in a casserole dish alternating slices of polenta, red onion, purple pepper, white zuchini, butternut squash with a little tomatoes sauce and parmesan cheese on top. it was delish!

      I just finished reading the book “Lunch in Paris” about an ex-pat living in Paris with her French husband. The cultural differences were really interesting to read about. For example, the French don’t really exercise for weight loss and they also eat smaller meals. It was so interesting! Have you noticed any differences living there?

      Your polenta dish sounds GREAT!

    I’m jealous! Wish I had girlfriends for making my workouts fly by. Years back I had a great friend who went to the gym with me and we did Weigh Watchers together too. We had a lot of fun. And then she moved away:( Now I do cardio with my husband and strength training with my mom. Which works for me… but… ah… girlfriends:)
