Wow that sounds intense. I feel like you and I are similar in that way – – I’ve tried a bootcamp class and could not get the hang of it AT ALL. It was kind of embarrassing because I consider myself fit, but it was so hard to figure out what was going on and by the time I felt like I had my head around a move, it was already time for a new one!

I think we are alike, Beth. I was able to catch on to yoga because it’s fairly slow.

I’m bad about trying new classes…I am not always the most coordinated girl so I have to be a gawker outside for a while before I’m comfortable enough to try it. Congrats for trying something new, even if you felt behind!

Great job trying something new! That is always scary!! I’ve tried kickboxing once and honestly didn’t like it…the guy yelled in a way that more frightened me than encouraged me and I dunno…just wasn’t my thing so I totally understand if it wasn’t a good fit for you. But just keep exploring other classes πŸ™‚ And hey! You still burned a heck of a lot of calories! πŸ™‚ Not too shabby!

P.S. Sounds like the instructor sucked in that class, too…NOT helpful!

Never did that class, but I took a Zumba class, and it was kind of the same feeling. However, the instructor was awesome. She told the newbies to line up in the front so we could see her better, and give it a few visits to get the routine, because it’s fast paced go go go. I loved it, but the drive and time of day became too difficult. I’m going to try and find a good one near me. I tried one, but it was awful.

    At least you tried!

    1. Lisa Eirene

I want to try Zumba, too. I’ll keep it in mind that I should be up front.

I am glad you tried it. I used to regularly take Turbo Kick and even when if I haven’t been for a while I get lost. They change the routines every2 months or so. Thus, if you are a regular you will know the routine, but new people just have to try to keep up. The instructor should’ve mentioned that it may take a couple of sessions to do the routine. I teach Zumba and it has been my world so much I got away from Turbo Kick. Going tonight – I won’t know the routine either LOL. Keep it going!!

Even if the class wasn’t fun because you didnt feel with it, you tried and like you said–got a good workout! sounds like a win to me!

  7. BIOCHEMISTA

Congrats on trying a new (and intimidating)! I’ve been scared of some in the past but after going to them 2-3 times you’re practically a pro! Keep with it and you’ll be mindlessly doing the poses in no time πŸ™‚

    Yo –
I have never done the turbo kick but I took a boxing class with some friends that was pretty fun. No one really knew what they were doing so we all just laughed at each other. I did take one class where I was totally lost and everyone else seemed to know what was going on and yeah, I never went back.

    1. Lisa Eirene

It’s unfortunate that that happens but I wouldn’t go back either if the whole class knew the moves and I didn’t…

  9. Shannon @ BetterNextTime

I’ve never tried Turbo Kick since I don’t belong to a gym, but I do Turbo Jam which is the video version of the gym workout (and I do believe it is a bit easier than Turbo Kick). I always feel lost when I first start a new workout, but I pick up on it after a few times. And once you do get it down you pretty much feel like a rock star. πŸ™‚

Hi – first time posting – love the blog.

Please do not give up on Turbo Kick! I was just like you the first time I tried it. In fact, I watched the first two classes or so through the glass because I couldn’t bring myself to go in. I remember totally cursing out the instructor (in my head, of course) the first time I tried it. I felt slow and like, would I ever figure this out? I don’t know why I kept going back but I did. After a few classes, you get into the music and you learn to low-kick, etc., for the warm up, even if there are people in there going for broke right out of the gate. I started to feel really empowered and strong after doing it. 30+ lbs down and I still like it!

    1. Lisa Eirene

Congrats on the 30 pounds! That’s pretty inspiring. Okay. I will give it another try…

    2. Jennifer is Always Sick

Woo hoo! Congratulations! Seems like you found yourself a winner.
