<\/a><\/p>\nIt’s a popular tradition here in Portland and the crowds can be pretty thick. I’ve only been once and it was a few years ago. Michael has never been!<\/p>\n We went to Bubba Bernie’s. I agonized over the menu (everything sounded yummy) and finally decided to try the Jamalaya. It just sounded so good to me on a such a cold night. Michael ordered a bratwurst.<\/p>\n Steam was wafting off my Jambalaya. I ordered a diet cherry soda to go with my dinner. It was wonderful! We huddled under the tent to keep warm while we ate dinner.<\/p>\n<\/a>
\nWe bundled up and headed over to SE Belmont to walk down Peacock Lane. Peacock Lane<\/a> is a short street over in SE Portland where every house on the block decorates for Christmas. It’s been going on since 1929.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>
\nThere is Christmas music playing from various houses, some nights there’s carolers. It’s a pretty cool “thing” to do during the holidays. It was cute seeing the little kids walking Peacock Lane and getting excited about the lights and Santas.<\/p>\n<\/a>
\nThere was also a stand handing out hot chocolate but we skipped that. It was cold–about 40 degrees out–but it was a clear night and no rain. It was a pleasant evening.<\/p>\n<\/a>
\nAfter walking down Peacock Lane we went over to the Food Carts on SE 12th and Hawthorne.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a>
\nThe Food Carts in Portland are kind of a phenomenon. They are all over the city and wildly popular. I first discovered The Carts when I started working downtown. The food carts have a few different spots in downtown–on 5th Avenue and 10th Avenue–set up in vacant parking lots. The lines can be 20 deep to get food from the carts because they are so popular. One of my favorite food carts is near my office and they have the best Indian food! Yum!<\/p>\n<\/a>There was also a Crepe food card. I was sooo tempted to get dessert from it!<\/p>\n<\/a>
\nA crepe with Nutella and Banana? Oh my god! Heavenly! How did I turn that down?? I’m definitely kicking myself today wishing I’d gotten that dessert crepe. They even had shakes too.<\/p>\n<\/a>
\nI see myself returning to the crepe food cart very very soon. We were freezing so we came home and I made us hot cocoa.<\/p>\n<\/a>
