If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter you probably are aware of my meltdown yesterday. For those of you unaware: our home server crashed. Remember when our power went out Christmas morning? Well I guess that wiped the external (RAID) server clean.<\/p>\n

Everything was gone<\/span><\/strong>. Or so I thought. I thought about all my photos. That’s all I care about. If my house was on fire, I’m grabbing my kitties and then going back in for the photo albums. I don’t care about any of the other stuff. That stuff is replaceable. So I was freaking out. I thought about old family photos, pictures of my kitties when they were babies, photos of vacations, anniversaries, birthdays…everything. All those memories gone?<\/p>\n

I was really upset to say the least. I went home and Michael took me out to dinner at Iron Horse Mexican restaurant to cheer me up and explain what happened. I ordered a Mirror Pond beer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>And I ate too many chips:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I ordered a burrito with black beans and shredded beef. It was gooey and oozing in cheese. Not the healthiest choice but emotionally I’d been through the ringer! I just wanted cheese and sour cream!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Luckily despite my emotional eating frenzy, I only ate half the burrito. I saved the rest for lunch.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I ate too much even just eating half. I also went way over my calories for the day. SIGH.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I didn’t even add all of the calories, either. I saw that angry red -204<\/span> and just stopped entering the calories in. Oh well. It’s one day.<\/p>\n

We went home and I checked the computer–something I’d been dreading and avoiding. Turned out to be good news for me!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Because I had been so lazy and storing the majority of my photos from the last year and a half on the desktop instead of moving them to the server like Michael wanted me to–I still had most of my photos! YIPPEE!!!! I was so relieved. The older stuff is gone. Files are gone. But at least the bulk of my photos are still there. Now I need to find a safe place to store them for the future.<\/p>\n

To prevent this happening in the future, Michael purchased this device: 3TB External Hard drive<\/a>. It is fairly cheap and you can purchase smaller and cheaper ones. I suggest everyone reading this take a moment to think about how valuable your computer files are to you and try to figure out a way to back them up. For me, it was the photos I cared about.<\/p>\n

There’s bad news too. Michael’s stuff is all gone. He WAS storing everything on the server. I feel so heartbroken for him. All of his photos, movies, music, master copies of his bands’ music…all gone. \ud83d\ude41 He is devastated (even if he isn’t saying so). Also, last year’s New Year’s Resolution for him was to move all of his DVDs and CDs onto the computer and eventually go disc-less. It’s more organized and it saves lots of space in the house. He’s been working on that project all year. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n

Let’s talk about something more uplifting, shall we? I suggest kittens and snowflakes.<\/p>\n

First, the kitten:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Maya<\/p><\/div>\n

Yep, that’s my baby girl Maya! A rare sighting of her, in fact! She’s been long overdue for nail trimmings. Poor thing is such a scaredy cat I can never catch her to pet her, hold her, or cut her nails. Michael locked her in the office and I snuck in to grab her. She took one look at me and flattened herself under the couch crying. Gawd!<\/p>\n

I HAD to catch her though. Last time it went too long in between trimmings one of her nails started growing in a curve and grew into her little paw.\u00a0After 10 minutes of coaxing, prodding, and pleading we snatched her. Michael held her and I clipped nails. She shrank into a ball like a potato bug. Silly girl.<\/p>\n

Now the snowflakes:<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Portland World Trade Center<\/p><\/div>\n

Supposedly <\/em>it’s going to snow in Portland sometime this week. I am highly skeptical because we never get snow. \u00a0Michael and I are hoping to go snowshoeing this weekend up on Mount Hood. I can’t wait!<\/p>\n
