BBQ&#8217;s, picnics, potlucks galore. There are simple ways you can avoid  packing on the pounds during this fun season. For example, skip the  cheeseburger and make a turkey burger or a veggie burger. Here are a few  other tips:<\/p>\n<p>1. Choose less fatty cuts of meat. If you are grilling chicken, take the skin off.<\/p>\n<p>2. Try putting BBQ sauce on before you grill, not after. A lot of it will burn off but you&#8217;ll still have the flavor.<\/p>\n<p>3. Go easy on the serving sizes.<\/p>\n<p>4. But go NUTS on the veggies! Veggies are delicious when grilled.  Try kebabs with sliced zucchini, carrots, peppers and onions. Watch the side dishes. I love grilling asparagus or zucchini as a side dish and I skip the potato salad or chips and dip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/grill2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"grill2\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/grill2.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>6. If you must have dips, try hummus and carrots. Trader Joe&#8217;s has excellent hummus (I love the red pepper hummus).<\/p>\n<p>7. Use a meat thermometer to make sure you are cooking the food correctly. Nothing ruins a good BBQ like food poisoning!<\/p>\n<p>8. Try grilling fish instead of a steak or burger. Here are some tips for grilling <a href=\"http:\/\/bbq.about.com\/od\/fishandseafood\/a\/aa103004a.htm\">Tuna<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>9. Instead of cookies or cake for dessert, try grilling pineapple slices and eat them with frozen yogurt!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/pineapple.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"pineapple\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/pineapple.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Condiments<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget that condiments can really add up.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2588\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/condiments.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"condiments\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/condiments.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/dt>\n<p>Choose lower calories options like mustard (which is almost always low in calories):<\/p>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2589\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"label2\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label2.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ketchup is packed with sugar (no wonder I love it). 20 calories in 1  Tablespoon. How many tablespoons do you use for fries? I bet it&#8217;s not 1  serving!<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2590\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"label1\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label1.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Pickles are a great addition because they are tasty and very low in calories.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2591\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"label3\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label3.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>Sweet relish goes great on hot dogs and burgers. I use it sparingly as well.<\/p>\n<div>\n<dl id=\"attachment_2592\">\n<dt><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"label4\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/label4.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a> <\/dt>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p>BBQ sauce can add a whopping 50-100+ calories to your meal as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bbqsauce.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA\" src=\"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/bbqsauce.jpg?w=247\" alt=\"\" width=\"247\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The conclusion is that adding a lot of condiments to your meal can  add up fast. Doing some quick math, eating all of\u00a0 the above (several  servings) can add 100-200 calories to your meal. While I&#8217;m not saying to  cut them out, there are ways to season without gaining weight. Mustard,  mustard, mustard! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>And don&#8217;t forget to exercise! Play basketball, badminton, frisbee, etc with friends before grilling.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>QUESTION: How do you keep BBQ&#8217;s healthy?
