All. Day. Long.<\/p>\n<p>If I had to make a list of the top three things that contributed to me gaining over 100 pounds it would be in this order:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>No Activity.<\/li>\n<li>Drinking My Calories.<\/li>\n<li>No Portion Control.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to describe a typical day of drinking in the old days. I&#8217;d wake up and I always had a big glass of orange juice with my breakfast (plus milk on my cereal).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/oj.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22419\" title=\"oj\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/oj.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/oj.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/oj-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI wasn&#8217;t having just a single serving either. I poured it into a big pint glass, which is probably two servings. <strong>Calories: 250<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I also drank a lot of the Lipton&#8217;s Sweetened Iced Tea. Like a lot. Maybe 3 a day? They were so sweet, I loved them. I sucked them down like they were water. 16 ounces was 140 calories x 3 = <strong>420 calories<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sweettea.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22421\" title=\"sweettea\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sweettea.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"180\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sweettea.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sweettea-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 180px) 100vw, 180px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI liked to get coffee in the morning on my way to work. But I wasn&#8217;t a huge fan of coffee itself so I loaded it with sugar. My favorite was a grande white chocolate mocha with caramel syrup and whipped cream. \u00a0<strong>Calories: 500<\/strong> or so.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/mocha.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22422\" title=\"mocha\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/mocha.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"162\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/mocha.jpg 162w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/mocha-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI drank a lot of soda too. On weekends I could drink \u00a0four a day. I usually had a soda with dinner. Dr. Pepper and Sprite were my favorites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sprite.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-22425\" title=\"sprite\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sprite-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sprite-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sprite-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/sprite.jpg 489w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drpepper.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22426\" title=\"drpepper\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drpepper-164x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"164\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drpepper-164x300.jpg 164w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drpepper.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 164px) 100vw, 164px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nA can of Dr. Pepper is about 150 calories. Say I drank three in a day (sometimes one right after another). <strong>Calories: 450<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If was going out to a bar with friends, my drink of choice varied but it was often a strawberry\u00a0daiquiri\u00a0(with whipped cream of course) or a White\u00a0Russian. <strong>Calories: 300<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/white-russian.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22428\" title=\"white russian\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/white-russian-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/white-russian-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/white-russian.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAnd of course when you are at a bar with your friends, eating fried food and feeling good, you don&#8217;t just have one drink. Maybe two or three? Estimate that evening at over 1,000 calories just for the liquids. Have you noticed that I&#8217;m not drinking any water??<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/vitamin-water.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22429\" title=\"vitamin-water\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/vitamin-water-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/vitamin-water-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/vitamin-water.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another favorite was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=638\">Vitamin Water<\/a>. Not real water, but sugar water. My favorite flavor was the dragonfruit. <strong>Calories: 150<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t even gotten to my snacking habits. I ate a lot of candy bars. Butterfingers and 5th Avenue bars were my absolute favorite. And you can&#8217;t enjoy chocolate without a big glass of cold milk. They went hand in hand for me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/milk.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22430\" title=\"milk\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/milk-273x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/milk-273x300.jpg 273w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/milk.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 273px) 100vw, 273px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI&#8217;d estimate the milk to be about <strong>200 calories<\/strong> a glass.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a lot of drinking! <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The above calories total 2, 270!<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0No wonder I was developing diabetes! That&#8217;s more calories than what I currently EAT nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>Boy have things changed. I started making small changes in the beginning. When I started counting my calories to stay under 2,000 a day I was shocked at how fast it added up when I drank my calories. I put an end to that.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I stopped drinking juice. Completely.<\/li>\n<li>I switched to diet soda.<\/li>\n<li>No more high calorie alcohol drinks.<\/li>\n<li>No more coffee\/candy drinks!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The changes I made worked. I saw a difference. I FELT a difference. I lost the weight!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drinking-calories.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22432\" title=\"drinking-calories\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drinking-calories-300x219.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"219\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drinking-calories-300x219.png 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/drinking-calories.png 782w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How am I different now? I try to avoid any liquid that has calories. I prefer sparkling water or regular water. I drink unsweetened ice tea. Once in awhile I drink diet soda but not very often because I don&#8217;t like how it feels. The only time I <em>ever<\/em>\u00a0drink juice now is when I am sick. I drink plain old black coffee with a little bit of creamer in it.<\/p>\n<p>I do drink things with calories in them. I have a glass of milk with dessert on\u00a0occasion\u00a0but it&#8217;s not an every day thing. I drink <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=21370\">wine<\/a>. I drink <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=21160\">beer<\/a>. Again, in moderation and not everyday. Writing down all the calories I consumed in liquid form is pretty shocking to me.
