If you&#8217;re like me,\u00a0Thanksgiving\u00a0brings up feelings of stress, anxiety and dread. I don&#8217;t want to deny myself of the holiday, but I also don&#8217;t want to eat 2,500 calories in one meal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t go hungry!<\/strong> Skipping breakfast or lunch in order to save calories for the big spread isn&#8217;t the solution. You&#8217;ll be starving and make poor choices.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/5spoons2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8435\" title=\"5spoons2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/5spoons2-297x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/5spoons2-297x300.jpg 297w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/5spoons2.jpg 425w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Use small spoons instead of large serving spoons.<\/strong> This is a good trick because you&#8217;ll dish up less portions than you would with a larger spoon. The trick is to just get one spoonful (not 5). \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>Set the table with small plates instead of large plates. <\/strong>It tricks your eyes (and hopefully your stomach) into thinking the smaller portions are just as filling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinnerware.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8436\" title=\"dinnerware\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinnerware.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"160\" height=\"107\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cover the dishes of food after people have dished up.<\/strong> Out of sight, out of mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skip the roll (and the butter).<\/strong> Bread is the quickest way to add a bunch of calories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Snack on a veggie tray with light dressing instead of chips.<\/strong> Honestly, I love me a veggie tray. There&#8217;s nothing better than fresh broccoli and cauliflower. If you don&#8217;t like &#8220;lite&#8221; dressing, try mixing half regular and half lite to save some calories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/bcd18large-veggie-tray.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8442\" title=\"bcd18large-veggie-tray\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/bcd18large-veggie-tray-300x264.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"264\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/bcd18large-veggie-tray-300x264.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/bcd18large-veggie-tray.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Make steamed veggies<\/strong> instead of a veggie dish that&#8217;s loaded with cheese or butter. Fill half your plate with the vegetables.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swap the potatoes with sweet potatoes. <\/strong>Lower in calories and just as yummy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/thanksgiving-meal1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8443\" title=\"thanksgiving-meal\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/thanksgiving-meal1-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"234\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/thanksgiving-meal1-234x300.jpg 234w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/thanksgiving-meal1.jpg 298w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 234px) 100vw, 234px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>If you must have mashed potatoes, use chicken broth instead of butter.<\/strong> Or even better&#8230;try mashed cauliflower!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>You don&#8217;t have to eat everything.<\/strong><\/span> Having just a taste of everything is perfectly fine&#8230;then get seconds of what you REALLY loved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/PUMPKINPIE.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8438\" title=\"PUMPKINPIE\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/PUMPKINPIE-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/PUMPKINPIE-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/PUMPKINPIE.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead of the Green Bean Casserole, sautee some green beans with onions.<\/strong> I&#8217;m not one of those people that feel like Green Bean Casserole is a must, so I wouldn&#8217;t miss it. But for those of you that would, search for a healthier version.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Include a green, leafy salad with lots of veggies<\/strong> in the feast&#8211;preferably before dinner is served.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Make a smaller pie.<\/strong> Only eat a small piece of the pie. Try low-calorie alternatives like <a href=\"http:\/\/shine.yahoo.com\/event\/thanksgiving\/save-254-calories-with-this-decadent-pumpkin-pie-542670\">Frozen Pumpkin Pie Mousse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/pie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8437\" title=\"pie\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/pie-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/pie-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/pie.jpg 418w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Remove the skin from turkey<\/strong> to save around 50 calories.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/RoastTurkey.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8440\" title=\"RoastTurkey\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/RoastTurkey-300x275.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"275\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/RoastTurkey-300x275.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/RoastTurkey.jpg 387w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Make your own cranberry sauce, using half the sugar<\/strong> (or Splenda)\u00a0 suggested in the recipe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t stuff yourself. <\/strong>Eating a serving of each dish that you like is plenty! But overdoing it means an angry stomach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Don&#8217;t forget the water. <\/strong>There&#8217;s lots of goodies out there to drink&#8230;soda, eggnog&#8230;but check out how quickly they add up those calories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 cup of eggnog \u2013 340 calories<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 pint of beer \u2013 200 calories<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 glass of wine \u2013 120 calorie<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 glass of sparkling grape juice \u2013 120 calories<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 glass of soda \u2013 140 calories<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 cup of tea or coffee with reduced fat milk \u2013 15 calories<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Some of the High Calorie Culprits: <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Cranberries: 1\/3 cup serving of the canned kind clocks in at <strong>225 calories<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stuffing: 1\/2 cup serving: <strong>265 calories<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pumpkin Pie:<strong> <\/strong>For 1\/8th pie: <strong>340 calories<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>The Day After<\/h3>\n<p>Enjoy your Black Friday shopping the day after Thanksgiving, but at some point that next day&#8230;fit in some exercise. Turn your food guilt into a productive thing and move your body! And I don&#8217;t mean just walking from store to store. Try to get some kind of workout in.<\/p>\n<p>And keep in mind this important fact: Thanksgiving is only ONE DAY. If you over-indulge, don&#8217;t beat yourself up about it.
