I love when I discover new (to me) authors! I’ve listed a few below. Enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1 – Spare by Prince Harry<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great book. I appreciated the openness and honesty about what he went through growing up and what it was like always being hunted by paparazzi. It was heartbreaking how he wrote about his mom. He was truly damaged by everything that happened. I also appreciate how much he and his wife have advocated for mental health advocacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He spent a lot of time in the book writing about his time in the military, which was fine, but most readers want to read more about him and Meghan and more details about what was going on behind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recommend the book if you are interested in any way of the royal family. I’ve always been somewhat interested. After I read this book I watched the Netflix series and it was excellent!<\/p>\n\n\n

2 – Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book takes place in Montgomery, Alabama in 1973. Civil Townsend is an African American nurse with big ideas and a desire to make a difference in her community. She gets a job at the Montgomery Family Planning Clinic and quickly realizes something is amiss in the clinic. What she discovers is horrific–forced sterilization of black and brown poor women who often are illiterate and do not know what is being forced onto them. The story is powerful, and based on true events, and such a good read I stayed up late reading it into the night. <\/p>\n\n\n

3 – All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the author’s name sounds familiar it’s because she’s the host of the podcast Crime Junkies. It’s a fictional mystery that takes place in 1994 and then current times. Margot is back in her hometown to take care of her ill uncle and try to save her journalism career. She wants to solve the murder of her friend when they were 6 years old. Then another girl is taken and Margot is convinced the crimes are connected somehow. The book is a little slow at first but the second half it picks up and I absolutely did not see the twists at the end coming. I really enjoyed it!<\/p>\n\n\n

4 – “What Lies in the Woods” by Kate Alice Marshall<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is a wilderness in little girls. We could not contain it. It made magic of the rain and a temple of the forest.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three best friends spent their summers in the woods in their small town, creating games and roaming the magic woods in the way only you can at age 11. And then one day in those woods one of the girls is attacked by a serial killer and she actually lived to help put him away for life. Two decades later she returns to the small town to reunite with her friends and suddenly realizes things weren’t as they seemed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This book was really compelling and so well written I couldn’t put it down. The characters were well crafted and the story had many twists and turns. While part of the ending fell a little flat for me, I did enjoy the book a lot. I will definitely read more by this author!<\/p>\n\n\n

5 – I Am Still Alive by Kate Alice Marshall<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jess is 16 and her mom recently died in a car accident that caused Jess some serious injury. She is sent to live with the father she barely knows in the middle of nowhere. After a series of events, Jess finds herself alone in the wilderness and she must survive. It’s a gripping story of survival and makes you wonder, would I survive something like this? Do I even have any skills to keep myself alive?? It was a fast and exciting read!<\/p>\n\n\n
