I’d have one at lunch, in the afternoon, with dinner…And of course, it was REAL soda. It doesn’t take too much to add up to a LOT of calories. And they were empty calories. I was probably drinking about 400-500 calories a day. Not only was I soda addict, I loved fruit juice. I’d have a huge glass of orange juice every morning with breakfast….another 200 calories at least. If you add that up, that’s about 700+ calories a day from liquid. Holy cow! Cow indeed….

Of course, when I started watching what I eat and counting calories, I switched to diet soda immediately. Trying to stay under 2000 calories a day does NOT allow for real soda OR fruit juice!

In the recent years the new fad has been flavored waters. I admit, I absolutely LOVED Vitamin Water when it first came out. I thought it was “healthy” so I guzzled it like there was no tomorrow. Then I looked at the back of the bottle. Ooops…looks like there’s almost as many CALORIES in Vitamin Water as a regular soda!

Vitamin Water

Don’t be fooled by the 50 calories. Look careful at how many servings are in the bottle (this always screwed me up when I first started counting calories). There’s 2.5 servings in each Vitamin Water bottle. That’s 125 empty calories! Now check out the back of this regular Coke:

Regular Coke

A regular coke has about 200 calories in it. A smaller sized Pepsi (in the can) is about 160 calories. Not much more than the Vitamin Water!

The good news is that Vitamin Water is starting to make the 10 calorie drinks. Again, look at the servings because it’s really like 30 calories a bottle, not just 10.

Well, it’s Monday morning. I hope everyone had a good weekend! This morning’s breakfast was scrambled eggs, 1 piece of toast, and 2 turkey sausage links. It’s also my Rest Day. Yuck.

When I was 250 pounds, I drank a lot of soda.
