The article defines both as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">You\u2019re a moderator if you\u2026<br \/>\n&#8212; find that occasional indulgence heightens your pleasure \u2013 and strengthens your resolve<br \/>\n&#8212; get panicky at the thought of \u201cnever\u201d getting or doing something<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">You\u2019re an abstainer if you\u2026<br \/>\n&#8212; have trouble stopping something once you\u2019ve started<br \/>\n&#8212; aren\u2019t tempted by things that you\u2019ve decided are off-limits<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/cookies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7450\" title=\"cookies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/cookies-295x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"295\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/cookies-295x300.jpg 295w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/cookies.jpg 492w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 295px) 100vw, 295px\" \/><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For me, I think I&#8217;m a combination of both. For the most part I am a Moderator.<\/p>\n<p>I eat good food in moderation. I <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=3229\">drink wine<\/a>, I treat myself to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=2732\">dessert <\/a>once in awhile, I splurge on high calorie things like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=4769\">guacamole <\/a>or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=472\">pizza<\/a>. But I eat those things in moderation and I don&#8217;t do it every day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/veggies.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7454\" title=\"veggies\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/veggies.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"288\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/veggies.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/veggies-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 288px) 100vw, 288px\" \/><\/a>I also balance it with consistent, daily exercise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Running-main_Full.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7455\" title=\"Running-main_Full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Running-main_Full-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Running-main_Full-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Running-main_Full.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>To be honest with you, though, for the 2 years I was trying to lose 100 pounds I was definitely an Abstainer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bc032_Temptation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7457\" title=\"bc032_Temptation\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bc032_Temptation-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bc032_Temptation-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/bc032_Temptation.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=3846\">Food Addict<\/a>. Specifically a Sugar Addict. When I decided it was time to get healthy and lose the weight, I purged my house of all <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=4108\">temptations<\/a>. I stopped buying things like desserts, snacks, treats. I stocked my freezer with Lean Cuisines.<\/p>\n<p>I ate a pretty strict, low calorie diet for two years. I did not trust myself to have treats in the house&#8211;so I did not have them around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/icecream_sundae-01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7461\" title=\"icecream_sundae-01\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/icecream_sundae-01-300x234.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/icecream_sundae-01-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/icecream_sundae-01.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I did not trust myself to make good choices at restaurants&#8211;so I didn&#8217;t go out.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t think I could stop at one drink at happy hour and I refused to drink my calories&#8211;so I stopped drinking alcohol completely.<\/p>\n<p>I had trigger foods that I could not eat in moderation, like pizza&#8211;so I did not eat pizza for 2 years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pizza2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7462\" title=\"pizza2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pizza2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pizza2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/pizza2.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I did not deviate my food plan or my calorie counting. Obsessive? Perhaps. But it worked.\u00a0 I like to think of it as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=9\">Determined<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It taught me how to eat portions. It changed my metabolism and shrunk my stomach so I didn&#8217;t WANT to over-eat. I learned how to make better choices. Once I learned these things, I was able to reintroduce certain foods and eat them in moderation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/temptation.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7463\" title=\"temptation\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/temptation.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/temptation.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/temptation-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Once I lost the weight, I thought I could go back to eating some of the things I stopped eating. I quickly realized that I&#8217;m the type of person that needs to be accountable&#8211;even if it&#8217;s just to myself. I keep track of my calories and exercise in my iPhone. It&#8217;s second nature to me and I rarely even think about it, I just do it.<\/p>\n<p>Completely denying myself of all treats just sets me up to fail.
