{"id":79,"date":"2010-03-15T18:20:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-16T01:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hundredtenpounds.wordpress.com\/2010\/03\/15\/eating-the-moment"},"modified":"2010-03-15T18:20:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-16T01:20:00","slug":"eating-the-moment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=79","title":{"rendered":"Eating the Moment"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/dessert.jpg\" style=\"clear:left;float:left;margin-bottom:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/dessert.jpg?w=300\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-size:small;\">I recently read a book called &#8220;Eating the Moment&#8221; by Pavel Somov, Ph.D. The majority of the book addressed emotional eating and prompted the reader to find out WHY they eat.&nbsp; There are three types of hunger according to the book:<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><\/div>\n<ol style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-size:small;\">We eat out of <b>physical <\/b>hunger (the need for food).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:small;\">We eat out of <b>psychological <\/b>hunger (stress and emotional triggers)<\/span><span style=\"font-size:small;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size:small;\">We eat out of <b>habit <\/b>(it&#8217;s 6pm, I should eat even though I&#8217;m not hungry)&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\">The book asks the question,<i> Why do we overeat?<\/i> The answer: because we aren&#8217;t mindful. [pg 8]<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\"> <\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\">*Mindless of environmental triggers.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\">*Mindless of the process of eating.<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"><span style=\"font-size:small;\">*Mindless of sensations of fullness.<\/span><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">*Mindless of emotional eating.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"> <\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">What is eating out of <b>Habit<\/b>? Here is an example: you go to the movies with a friend. Even though you just had lunch and aren&#8217;t really hungry, you get a <b><span style=\"color:#990000;\">large popcorn with butter (400-1200 calories)<\/span><\/b> and an even <b>larger soda (500 calories)<\/b><i><b> because that&#8217;s what you do at the movies. <\/b><\/i>(On a side note, MSNBC reports that movie popcorn + soda = 3 burgers and 12 servings of butter!!! <a href=\"http:\/\/today.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/34023406\">http:\/\/today.msnbc.msn.com\/id\/34023406<\/a>)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear:both;text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pizza1.jpg\" style=\"margin-left:1em;margin-right:1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/pizza1.jpg?w=300\" width=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">What is eating because of <b>Emotional Triggers<\/b>? Emotional triggers could be anything from watching TV, people you associate with food or eating (like the girlfriend you always go out to pizza with) or even the weather (it&#8217;s a cold,&nbsp; rainy, winter day = let&#8217;s eat comfort food!). The easy part is making a list of what your emotional triggers are. The hard part? Changing the behavior.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">I am very much an emotional eater&#8211;and always have been. When I was 250, I was going through some difficult times and I &#8220;medicated&#8221; myself with food. Ice cream and pizza were my absolute favorites. And to this day, those are the two &#8220;trigger foods&#8221; for me that can spark an emotional response. My decision to stop eating those two items for 2 years was crucial to me losing weight and staying motivated.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\"> <\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">Now that I&#8217;ve lost the weight, I&#8217;ve slowly started eating those two things again. Of course I eat them in moderation now and not all the time. But I still get a feeling of anxiety at the prospect of eating ice cream or pizza.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:small;\"><i><span style=\"font-family:Georgia,&quot;\">Question: Do you continue to eat even though you are full?
