Thursday I was starting to feel funky. Swollen glands, a bit of a sore throat. It wasn’t getting any worse, though, so I didn’t cancel my happy hour plans with my friend Erika.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I met her after work at Gold Dust Meridian<\/a>. It’s on SE Hawthorne–a trendy, hippie, yuppie area of town. Lots of boutiques, bars, restaurants, and funky hippie stores.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>One of the bonuses for this place was that happy hour lasted until 8pm! I love finding places that have longer happy hours because sometimes I can’t get their after work before happy hour ends.<\/p>\n

Even though I wasn’t feeling top notch, I got a pint of the Hop Works Lager.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Yes, yes I know that drinking a beer when under the weather probably wasn’t the smartest move. Oh well!<\/p>\n

I ordered the petite salad: organic greens, grape tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and citrus vinaigrette. It was delicious. I was really hungry too. The photo of the salad didn’t turn out. Trust me, it was tasty. I liked the citrus dressing.<\/p>\n

I also ordered the mac n’ cheese. It was made with Vermont aged cheddar and topped with breadcrumbs. It was gooey and delicious. Not the best mac n’ cheese I’ve ever had but it was good. Between the salad and mac n’ cheese, it was enough food for dinner.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The place was stylishly retro.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The decor reminded me of my grandmother’s basement.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bottom Line:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

-Food was good.<\/span><\/p>\n

-Happy Hour was cheap<\/span><\/p>\n

-The place wasn’t crowded at 5:30, but by 8pm it was packed.<\/span><\/p>\n

-Service was typical Portland: Mediocre at best but not horrible. <\/span><\/p>\n

-I’d probably go back.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before I knew it, 3 hours had passed and it was time to get home. My throat was hurting so I reverted to comfort food to soothe my throat:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Ice cream!<\/p>\n

I did not sleep well last night. My throat started hurting more in the middle of the night, I was out of numbing throat spray, and feeling grumpy this morning! I bought a bunch of EmergenC, drank Airborne and took my Zicam. I am determined to beat this!<\/p>\n

I will NOT get sick! Now gimme something warm for my throat!<\/p>\n
