{"id":8336,"date":"2010-11-01T08:58:42","date_gmt":"2010-11-01T15:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=8336"},"modified":"2010-11-01T08:58:42","modified_gmt":"2010-11-01T15:58:42","slug":"whats-brewing-in-my-cauldron","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/?p=8336","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s Brewing in My Cauldron"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_3697.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8385\" title=\"IMG_3697\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_3697-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_3697-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/IMG_3697-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><strong>Eye of newt?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Frogs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eyeballs?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nope.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Beef Burgundy!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">(adapted from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodnetwork.com\/recipes\/rachael-ray\/sirloin-beef-burgundy-boeuf-bourguignon-recipe2\/index.html\">Rachael Ray&#8217;s<\/a> recipe for Sirloin Beef Burgundy)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3 slices bacon, chopped<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">16 white mushrooms, medium in size, wiped with damp cloth to clean, thinly sliced<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Salt and pepper<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 cup frozen pearl onions, defrosted and drained<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2 pounds lean sirloin, 1-inch thick, trimmed and cubed into 1 inch pieces<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3 tablespoons all-purpose flour<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 cup <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foodterms.com\/encyclopedia\/burgundy\/index.html\">burgundy<\/a> wine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 1\/2 cups store bought beef stock<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Bouquet of 3 or 4 sprigs each sage and fresh thyme, tied with kitchen string<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Season with salt, pepper, marjoram<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> In a large stock pot over medium\/high heat, heat the  oil and add the beef pieces. Sprinkle the flour over the beef. Brown  the meat on all sides.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> Pour in broth and red wine. Sprinkle in salt, marjoram, thyme and black pepper.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> <span style=\"color: #000080;\">Bring to a boil. Cover, and reduce heat. Simmer for 1  1\/2 hours or until beef is tender, stirring occasionally.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"> Add mushrooms and onions to the pot. Liquid should  just cover  everything. If necessary, add some more wine to cover. Cook  until  onions are limp.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>There were parts of her recipe I wasn&#8217;t wild about so I sort of combined her recipe with another one I found on Allrecipes.com. Butter, onion and bacon? I guess I added it too quickly because it was a tad on the lumpy side. He kidnapped her and brought her to the Underworld. Persephone&#8217;s mother, Demeter, negotiated with Hades for her return. They agreed that she would spend 6 months in the Underworld and then when it was time for Spring, Persephone could return to the land of the living for 6 months. Thus began the Season changes. Halloween traditions include eating Pomegranate seeds and last night was no different. They were sweet and delicious!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinner1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8409\" title=\"dinner1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinner1-e1288626349662-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinner1-e1288626349662-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.110pounds.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/dinner1-e1288626349662.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Dinner turned out great. I cooked brown rice in a mixture of leftover beef stock and water. We watched &#8220;From Dusk til Dawn&#8221; and then the premiere of &#8220;The Walking Dead&#8221;&#8211;which was amazing!<\/p>\n<p>Fat Kitty became glued to my side. But that&#8217;s understandable&#8230;I was a witch after all.
