I LOVE hiking. I’m afraid with my marathon training schedule I won’t be able to get much in this summer. The best/longest hike I ever did was when we climbed Mount TImpanogos last year. You can check out the pictures here.

That’s right! That hike was one of the reasons I started following your because the pictures were GORGEOUS!

Those are beautiful pics!! I haven’t been hiking for so long.

Just wanted to mention that your posts and your whole blog are a real inspiration to me.

For the 50 millionth time I am trying to lose 60 pounds. I did it back in 2000 and now I need to do it AGAIN. Four weeks and only 5 pounds down. I’ve noticed that I certainly can’t eat as much as I use to when we sit down for a meal, which is a great thing. Just feel like my progess is so slow. I know the trick is to find great activities like you and your hubby have done.

Look forward to more of your great blog posts!! πŸ™‚

Hi Darlene, thanks so much for commenting. I’m glad you can find some value from my blog. I love that I can inspire people!

It’s hard re-losing the weight. When I gained about 15 pounds last year it was a LOOOONG struggle to re-lose it. Keep at it! Can you work out with your husband?

I love to hike, but haven’t been for a while. I did a 12 mile hike with my nephew in the Smoky Mountain National Park a few years ago. We hiked up a mountain and walked across a ridge where we were above the clouds that were in Cades Cove. It was beautiful. We walked out through a field with 3 wild turkeys wandering by. The longest hike I’ve been on was in the Smokies, but I don’t know the exact length. I can tell you that you don’t want to be in a national park on a trail in the woods in the dark! It was SCARY!! A flashlight goes with me after that incident.

Flip flops on a hike is like flip flops in the gym. Wonder if they were planning on hiking when they left their home??

I bet the Smoky Mountains were gorgeous! What a great hike!

Good tip on the flashlight. You never know….

My longest hike was a 2-day trip to Mount Civetta (Italian Dolomites) and back, including one via ferrata up and one down. I have no idea of the distance, since italian mountain guide books express trail length in hours, not in miles (or km). It was probably 8-9 hours per day.
I managed to sprain an ankle and break a ligament even with hiking shoes. From that event, it’s always hiking boots!

    1. Lisa Eirene

OH NO! That sounds awful! Did you have to have surgery?

      1. Eleonora

Luckily no, the ankle ligament does not need surgery (as the knee ligament, for instance). A couple of week in crutches and some sessions with a physiotherapist, and two months later I was doing the above mentioned Mt.Civetta climb! Nonetheless, it has been very very painful!

Your pics are gorgeus, I love trails along waterfalls!

        1. Lisa Eirene

I’m glad it healed without surgery. I had to have ligament surgery on my ankle and it was awful! πŸ™

how wonderfully scenic!! Everything looks gorgeous!

Oregon is a pretty scenic place. It’s hard to find unattractive parts!

What a beautiful hike! I don’t hike much just because of how much I bike. John and I have made noises about doing some Adirondack climbs. There are a bunch of peaks and trails around here.

    1. Lisa Eirene

I bet that would be really scenic!

Every year before I went to college my dad would organize a hike somewhere. The only catch was it was ALWAYS on Super Bowl weekend. (I grew up on Lake Superior … so it was always freezing with many feet of snow!). We’d grab sleds, boots, compasses, bundle up, and spend a few hours trekking our way in the snow. If you got tired, you just plopped down in a snowbank. One year we even came across a bear hibernating! We scurried out of there quick!!!

What a nice thing for your dad to do. It sounds like a nice memory! Do you still hike with him once a year?

  8. SlimKatie @ Runs for Cookies

Wow, that looks amazing! I’ve never been hiking, but after seeing your pictures, I really would love to try it some day.

Hiking is a fun way to stay fit. It’s scenic and not boring like a treadmill at the gym!

This is AWESOME! Nice job, Lisa. I was also in the Gorge on Monday… getting married! πŸ™‚ We had the ceremony at Horsetail Falls (Ssh…. we didn’t get prior approval…) It looks like you guys almost had as much fun as we did πŸ™‚

    1. Lisa Eirene

What a GREAT place to get married! Horsetail Falls was the very first hike Michael and I did together!
