    Great tips, Lisa!

I agree, water is incredibly expensive at the airport, but there’s a trick: you CAN go through security with an empty bottle and fill it up before boardig the plane. Just remember to empty it if you have to go through security again.

Can you take empty bottles? I thought about taking one of my plastic water bottles that I use all the time but thought they’d make me throw it away. Good to know!

I wouldn’t bring metal, but I always carry an empty plastic bottle with me. Most of the times I just recycle a bottle I bought (not my beloved water bottle!) because I end up forgetting it somewhere…

Oh man! I wish I’d known that. I totally would have brought my water bottle.

I clicked through to say the same thing as Eleonora. I always fill up at Starbucks. πŸ™‚

Another option is you can bring a refillable water bottle with you to the airport so you don’t have to buy the $$$ bottles. Just make sure its empty when you go through security and you can fill it up at the water fountain once you’re through. They also make cheap bottles (I saw one at Target for $7.99) that automatically filter water, so you can just fill it up from the sink!

I am most definitely doing that next time!

But it’s hard to find nutritional or fresh food at the airport, we might get a low calorie product but that would be packaged..

Not true, I saw apples and bananas for purchase. Starbuck’s also has oatmeal, fresh fruit salad, etc.

flying makes me wanna puke-that helps a lot with not eating junk πŸ™‚
i eat yogurt or a banana (starbucks sells both, and they’re right after security in PDX!) while I take my Dramamine (because, awesomely, the anti nausea meds also make me wanna puke a little when I first take them! They taste horrible. But they help, and if I eat with them I can ignore the taste more)
Starbucks is a good spot for some decent-ish traveling breakfast options. I get a tall soy latte plus my “please don’t let me puke!” banana or yogurt.

You can take a reusable water bottle through security-they swab it or something, but you can. We usually just take one and share.

OOoh I didn’t know it was that bad for you! That sucks! πŸ™

Yes, Starbucks is great. They have healthy options there. And in my experience, PDX is the best airport I’ve ever been too. The food options are better, it’s cleaner. I go to Starbucks and get a coffee and water and sometimes a banana for the plane.

I have learned to ALWAYS bring my own food to the airport. They are usually severely lacking in vegetarian options too!

Good point! If people have special dietary needs they definitely need to pack their own food!
