Let me know which ones you end up reading.

I’ve hardly read any of these, which is odd since I read a lot. I totally agree with you about Bossy Pants. I was really looking forward to it b/c I love Tina Fey but it wasn’t very good :(. I just FINALLY read Angela’s Ashes, which was really good. Now, I’m re-reading Pillars of the Earth. I almost never do that but it’s one of my very favorites and it’s been more than 20 years.

I just joined Goodreads too (as snapsandbits), but I’m not sure how much to update everything I’ve read over the past year. I might just look in my “books I’ve read closet,” and put the ones I want to track on there. I wish I’d known about Goodreads when it was first launched!

I wish I had kept up on my all my books on Goodreads but I joined a few years ago and then stopped updating. It makes it hard to remember where I am in series books and stuff like that.

I haven’t read Angela’s Ashes yet. I’ve tried a few times and for some reason I always stopped. Some day I will!

WOW! You weren’t kidding about loving books! Thanks for posting the info. I’m curious about The Dirty Life: On Farming, Food and Love since you didn’t say anything.
Thanks for the prodding to read more!

I think the link to that book went to a post I wrote about the book. I loved it!

From the first list- #5, #9, and #22 are on my wishlist. #18 is sitting by my bed waiting for me to get to it.

My reading goal for this year is 50 books. I just started #24 yesterday, so a little behind. You can see my list of what I read so far here: http://debslosingit.com/yearly-goals/ I didn’t comment on them, just added their links on Amazon.

Congrats on meeting one of your goals!

That’s great! The first Game of Thrones book was overwhelming and confusing but once I got into it, it was a good read.

I’ve heard its good but very unfriendly towards women. But considering the last book I read was a memoir that opened with a violent rape, and the entire book was about how that rape affected her life for years afterwards, I think I can handle a little fictional misogyny. Probably going to pick it up next after I finish The White Bone.

While I was reading the Game of Thrones books, I got the vibe that it was medieval England, not another made up world, so in that case the misogyny wasn’t out of the norm. I wasn’t really bothered by anything specific in the book. What memoir did you read?

The only one on your list I read was the Scottoline book. My boys got my husband the Game of Thrones series for Father’s Day and he is engrossed but I don’t think it’s my thing based on the little bit I have overheard when they watch the show on TV. I just yesterday finished The Stonecutter and liked that a lot.

I haven’t seen the tv show yet. I’ve heard mixed things about it.

  7. Mary Lynne

What a great list! I have several of these on my to read list.
I’m currently reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed (yes, I got sucked into the Oprah book club). It is really good. I highly recommend it. The author struggles, but comes to understand those struggles and the trials and ultimately why she is tackling the Pacific Coast Trail.
I’m off to follow you on Goodreads!

    1. Lisa Eirene

It’s funny you mention Wild because I just added it to my library list last week!

Lisa, have you read Haven Kimmel’s She Got Up Off The Couch? It’s been several years since I read it, but as a story of transformation, both physically and otherwise, it tells an amazing story of a woman turning her life around.

Great list! I’ve got to read this Laurie Notaro. She sounds like someone I would really like.

I have not heard of that book but I will add it to my list. I love those kinds of books.
