Hood River Mountain Loop

On Sunday we took a day trip out to Hood River and went for a hike. We did the Hood River Mountain Loop (or part of it anyways).

Logan was super excited to go for a hike! And he did a great job. We haven’t been in awhile.

Not sure if we actually made it to the hike we planned on going to because there was no real trailhead marked but there were other cars parked there and other hikers, so…?

The hike was basically an old road that was pretty steep. We walked up it, out in the open with the hot sun beating down on us. Thankfully we brought hats and had sunscreen and lots of water!

We got to a little top part and there was a really nice view of the mountains, gorge and river.

There were lots of wildflowers blooming. Lots of rocks on the trail. But overall it was pretty easy going.

We did about a mile and then took a break in the shade for water.

Logan was ready to turn around so we headed back down the trail to the car.

It was a lot slower going down with the loose rock and dirt.

It’s not much of a “workout” with a toddler. But it’s really more about family time and getting outside and getting Logan used to hiking. We did about 2 miles.

We got back to the car and I changed and then we drove to Panorama Point Park for a picnic. Due to budget cuts the park is now closed! So disappointing! It’s a great little park with nice views. You can still walk into the park, but it’s not maintained and there’s no bathrooms. But we parked on the street and walked in and had a picnic lunch on a picnic table anyways and just packed our stuff out.

The above view was from our picnic bench. See? Great views! Bummer. Anyways. After lunch we drove to the Draper Girl’s Orchard and Logan got to pet some goats and we bought some fruit.

It was a lovely, warm day. It was nice to get out of town and do something fun after months of doing house stuff with prepping our house, moving, unpacking, etc. I hope we can go for another hike again soon!

We drove back to Portland and Logan and Bella took another little nap in the car. 🙂

Beautiful Day in the Valley

Over the holiday weekend Michael and I got to enjoy a little time in the sun. We got a babysitter and went wine tasting with his mom and stepdad. They are always so nice and babysit Logan when we have pick-up parties at the wineries we are members at. So we wanted to repay the favor and take them tasting.

We started at Sokol Blosser, one of my favorites. We packed picnic items to share for lunch. I brought goat cheese, a creamy Toscana cheese soaked in Syrah (it was nice) with crackers, dried apricots, Trader Joe’s hummus, carrots, and Trader Joe’s chickpea salad (it’s one of my favorites there).

Michael’s mom brought baguette, olives, raw peppers, tomatoes, celery, blue cheese dip and Thin Mint cookies. 😀

It was a really delicious lunch. The day was a little cool to start with but warmed up nicely. We did our tasting outside and we were able to set up our lunch on a picnic table outside near the the music. There was a really talented singer–I wish I’d grabbed her name! I did post a short video on IG if you are interested.

We had lunch, and lounged and did our tasting, bought a few bottles to take home, then headed to the next venue.

Stoller

We are new members here. We joined last fall when we went there with some friends after the Sokol Blosser pick up party. The venue is SO MUCH BETTER in the summer! They opened up the patio and there was a TON of outdoor seating.

There were adirondack chairs, picnic tables, bistro tables and big tables set up everywhere. It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day. There were tons of kids there playing in the grass, there was a tire swing under the big tree, there was a frisbee golf course. It was just a fun environment for a summer day.

It was just wonderful sitting in the sunshine. I was glad I wore shorts. I just chilled and let the warmth relax me. It would have been nice to spend more time there but we had to get home for the babysitter!

(I will say that Girl Scouts Thin Mints pair excellently with the Pinot Noir Reserve. :D)

It was such a gorgeous, wonderful day and I cannot WAIT for summer!!! I came home with a bottle of wine from each venue. Michael’s mom cleaned up and got some great bottles, too. We came home and grilled burgers for dinner. Perfect end to the weekend.
