Love Logan’s room! That turned out great! He’ll have a lot of fun there until he gets too tall πŸ™‚

His room is super cute and it looks so much brighter. (And it looks a lot cleaner with the new colors, I realize it was clean, but the difference is huge, visually.)

    Paint colors.

We have built two houses. And I can’t remember what all the colors were in the old house. But this house, I had a system.

All ceilings in the whole house are the same white.

The walls in all the common rooms are a soft buttery yellow and the woodwork is very light wood.

The Kitchen and front hall and entry way have wood molding (with quilt racks built in) that is 12” down from the ceiling, the walls above the quilt racks are painted the ceiling white color.

The kitchen and entry and halls and computer room floors are wood laminate.

The living room, loft, bedrooms and my studio have the exact same Berber carpet.

All of the bedrooms have light tan walls and white woodwork.

All the bathrooms have white wainscoting that stops a foot from the ceiling and the wall above it is a avocado-ish green. Every bathroom has big tile on the floor – mottled white and mottled green in diamond setting.

Any window that has a covering has white plantation shutters.

I am not suggesting those specific colors. But I think the consistency makes things feel big and open.

And we did not have to debate every room. We have three full baths and five bedrooms, so it would have been a lot of decisions.

We have a lot of art and a lot of quilts hanging. So the consistency of the walls helps to balance. The walls are backdrop.

We have 3 main wall paint colors in the whole house. The only exception is the computer room which is painted nearly the same dark blue as the kitchen at the old house which I loved.

We were in the old house just over 15 years, we have been here almost 20. And I am still happy with all the colors. We have not repainted or refloored anything.

Thanks! It does feel brighter and cleaner in there. Fresh paint makes a big difference.

That’s interesting about your paint colors. I like the idea of it. For me, however, we lived in a house that we planned to sell and made everything “neutral” to sell it. For years (it took us longer to finish things and sell it than we planned) we lived with beige. I was just sick of beige and wanted more colors in this house.

When we bought this house, there were already bold colors. The dining room was a buttery yellow–a color we’d NEVER pick but love it. The upstairs bonus room that is now a playroom/music room is a really dark navy blue and I love that, too. It made me want more colors!
