It sounds like you’re making great progress in coming to understand yourself better! That’s really so great.

I’ve always been socially motivated for fitness (hike or bike with friends; train to meet a goal set with a few others) and over the last 5+ years as people got busy or sick I haven’t been able to count on that external motivation. I really have not been consistent about exercise at all. I do notice that for me, interest in and dedication to exercise comes in waves so I try to ride that wave when it appears!

I’m taking a year off work and it’s too early to see what space I’ll give to exercise. I have some hopes and also some reality about how much I’m likely to do. After all … I’m still me and I have a baseline love of leisure!

It’s definitely taking a lot of time, but it’s also a relief to be able to see what was happening before and how I want things to be in the future.

That’s interesting that you recognize the social motivation for yourself. I know there are lots of local fitness type groups. There are a bunch I belong to on Facebook. Like local hiking groups, local Hike It Baby groups etc.
