Labor Day weekend

Old Salmon River Trail

We had a nice, low-key Labor Day weekend. I took a half day on Friday and went swimming, shopping and had some time to myself. Michael went out with a friend so Logan and I had a “mommy and Logan” date of pizza and playing at the park. It was nice!

On Sunday we went for a family hike up on Mount Hood. We did the Old Salmon River Trail. It’s near a trail we’ve done several times before, Salmon Butte Trail, and this one is one I’ve read about on several kid blogs. It’s very kid-friendly (and easy).

This particular trailhead is right by a little area that people do rock climbing at. We parked at the rock climbing lot and then walked a bit to the trailhead.

The trail was pretty easy and flat and right along the pretty river the entire time. Logan was able to hike about 85% of it easily. We had so much fun walking on the trail. He liked to point out and touch all the fallen trees.

The trail was well-maintained and not very crowded. We also saw some camping spots along the trail.

The river sounded so nice! We saw some people fly fishing in the river.

There were two small bridges along the trail. It’s funny because Bella hates bridges and gets kind of freaked out but Logan loves them!

We got to the end of the trail, which was the parking lot and trailhead for the other hike. We turned around and Logan was starting to slow down a bit. We hiked a little bit back and then he wanted to go in the carrier. So for the last 3/4 of a mile or so he was in the carrier. I’m glad we brought it.

Even if he’s getting a LITTLE too big for the carrier!

Here are the stats:

It was a nice little hike. Perfect for kids–flat, easy, lots of stuff to look at and touch along the trail but no cliffs or drop-offs that are sketchy. We will definitely do this one again.

Labor Day Weekend

We’re living the life over here! The long weekend came and we didn’t do a whole heck of a lot. Michael had plans Friday night so Logan and I kicked back on the couch to watch season 2 of Outlander. Pretty pretty exciting. 😉

Saturday I went to the gym and got in a pretty good workout. I did burpees for the first time in a year (I forgot how hard those were) and a bunch of other body weight exercises. I was feeling pretty good afterward:

I wanted to get some beer for the long weekend so Logan and I walked to the grocery store and back (1.55 miles). It was nice out, despite the black rain clouds off in the distance. We lucked out and it was warm and sunny and we didn’t get rained on (it had been raining off and on for a few days).

When we got home I fed him and then ate lunch and then I just crashed. I was so so tired I could barely keep my eyes open. I tried to lay down for a little bit but Logan didn’t let me sleep for too long. I had an awful feeling I was fighting off a sickness.

I got really lucky and haven’t been sick in a year and a half. Pretty amazing, especially considering I was pregnant at the height of cold and flu season last year. I was SO glad I never caught anything. But I suppose we’re getting into that time again and I’ve just been feeling run down lately–more than just normal sleep-deprivation-due-to-baby run down.

Anyways. I drank a probiotic drink with lunch. I’ve been drinking EmergenC. I’m crossing my fingers it turns out to be nothing. I know once Logan starts daycare in a few weeks my immune system is going to be fair game. I am NOT looking forward to that!

Sunday

Sunday was a low-key day. I went swimming. Michael worked on some house projects and our evening wrapped up with homemade pizza and beer:

We used to make homemade pizza a lot and Michael got pretty good at it. But honestly it’s a lot of work. Ever since we discovered Trader Joe’s pizza dough, it’s a million times easier and we’ve been doing homemade pizzas again.

Monday

Monday Michael went for a run and so did Logan and I!  I say “run” but it was a walk/jog. I’ve been doing that a few times a week for the last month with Logan, trying to get my “running legs” back.

Michael passed us on the end of his run when Logan and I were about half way through ours. 🙂

After that it was off to a friend’s house for a BBQ!IMG_3164

The BBQ was at my friend Erika’s house and my other friend Robyn (Robyn and Erika were both bridesmaids in my wedding) and her hubby came so it was the 6 (7 if you count little L) of us. It was nice to hang out! I hate to admit it but I’ve slacked on seeing friends the last month or so. I’ve just been so busy and it was nice we could all hang out.

And we were having so much fun talking and catching up and sitting outside with some beers that we didn’t even realize that it was almost 7pm!

It was a nice way to end the holiday weekend!
