Just put “One-in-a-million Boy” on my list!

I loved “Lucky Boy”, too! When I read the synopsis, I didn’t think I was going to be able to relate because I’m not a mom. But I did really enjoy it. There’s another immigrant story I loved – Behold the Dreamer. I listened to it on audio and thought it was so well done.

I just read Hello Sunshine!” by Laura Dave and thought it started out great, but then the story fell flat. I still have “Eight Hundred Grapes”
    on my list though…

I just put Behold The Dreamers on hold. Thanks for the recommendation!

I haven’t read Hello Sunshine yet but I just finished the First Husband by Laura Dave. It was ok but not as good as Eight Hundred Grapes.

Thanks for the suggestions, Lisa – added a few to my library hold list. I am currently reading a Steinbeck book my daughter got me – it’s his Vietnam War correspondence that he wrote for Newsday magazine in 1966-1967, compiled and edited by Thomas Barden. It’s very interesting reading, and a little creepy comaparing it to things that are unfolding East Asia right now. I also just finished listening to a book on CD by Robert Goddard – have you read any of his books? I had never heard of him, so started with his first on “Into the Blue”. Goddard is a prolific (26 novels so far) British writer and, although I think the story was a bit too long, I enjoyed it. A couple of twists and turns made it a good listen.

BTW – we’re heading down to Corvallis for the eclipse this weekend – things are going to be a bit crazy in Portland as eclipse fever hits its peak. A good time to hunker down with some eclipse glasses, right?

That sounds like an interesting book. I will check it out. My dad would probably enjoy reading it, too. I don’t think I have read any Robert Goddard. He doesn’t sound familiar.

Have fun in Corvallis! Hopefully the traffic isn’t as horrific as they are predicting it will be. I’ll probably be at work, LOL
