Thank you for sharing your story!

I really really like this series!

Thanks for sharing so much, Esther. I can relate to this because I have a medical condition I often have to take the drug prednisone for and it makes me blow up like a balloon no matter how much I work out or if I count my ww points. Its not fair when something like that affects the body!

Hi CeeCee–I’m glad you enjoyed this series. It seems popular and I definitely want to do it again.

I agree with the medications. I’ve been victim to that problem, too. I was taking a med that caused weight gain even though I was working out 5x a week and counting my calories. It was so frustrating to NOT be in control of it.

      You’re welcome!

Prednisone did such horrible things to me that I had to stop taking it. But the amount I did take and the time I was on it didn’t help matters one bit. All in due time, I’ll get the weight off. But I am not letting it debilitate me.

Prednisone is such a crazy thing. I took it for 10 days last year when I had a flare up of my costochondritis and the side effects were crazy. Agitated, insomnia, eating everything in sight, slight weight gain–and I only took it for 10 days! I can’t imagine extended dosages….

Right? I had a steroid-induced psychosis, which sent me over the edge. I was crazy! Well, not really, but I was certainly irritable.

I just want to say that I could also relate to your story, Esther. I enjoyed reading it and appreciate how much you shared. I think it’s a common thing to experience growing up. I like that you’ve decided to try and keep the negative influences out of your life. Lately I have felt like I’m bogged down by the negative things in my environments and it’s so difficult to pull yourself out of that swamp when you’re so inundated in it. I think the photography project is a great idea. For me, the writing of my memoir was cathartic and really helped me make peace with the “old me” and the negative things in my life. Hopefully focusing on the process of getting published will keep me busy and positive! 🙂

I can definitely relate to Esther’s story, and I like the photograph and the Pink song very much.

I often wonder how one goes about accepting one’s body because I’ve heard many formerly overweight people talking about the importance of loving your body even before you’re normal weight. How does that happen, exactly? Is it enough to fake it till you make it or is it just paying lip service?

    1. Lisa Eirene

I’m glad you could relate to Esther’s story. I felt the same way. And as a new photographer I really liked her project concept too.

As for your question…I think it is a “fake it til you make it” type of thing and you do that long enough and you start to believe it. I had the negative voice in my head for so long telling me I could not lose the weight but once I really TRIED I started to tell myself “I can do this” and “I WILL lose the weight.” Before long I actually believed it. I felt confident in myself and that I COULD lose the weight.
