I’m looking forward to training for and completing my first triathlon and doing a lot more hiking and trail running. I didn’t do it too much last year because I was caught up with marathon training but it’s definitely one of my favourite things to do πŸ™‚

Oh and Kayaking is SO FUN! We did it for the first time last summer and I would definitely like to do it more this summer!!

Oh good one! I can’t believe I forgot trail running! I’ve never done it and last winter I even bought trail running shoes too. I never used them because I was so freaked out about potentially injuring myself before Hood to Coast. I definitely want to trail run this summer.

I’m so glad I found your site! I really enjoy your writing and it’s nice to read about topics that are on my mind…ALOT!

Thankfully, I began my new lifestyle of incorporating exercise into my day-to-day routine this winter. And this time .. it STUCK! My daughter is turning 6 in a few weeks (it’s just she and I) and I just bought a good bike for her. So…this summer’s adventure will be getitng out on our bikes on one of the many great trails in our city.

I’m also going to register for my cities Komen Race for a Cure as a runner this year. I’ve done it in years past as a walker. In all honesty…I doubt that I’ll be able to jog the entire 5k, but I will do my best!

and I agree with Amber…Kayaking is a blast!

Thanks for reading Michelle! I’m glad you are finding some useful info in the topics I write about.

That’s great that you can bike as a family. I remember doing that as a kid and it was fun! We lived in Seattle and the four of us would bike the Burke-Gilman trail on the weekends.

      Good luck on your 5k!

I have been ready for nice weather! We already are out biking longer distances now – yay! I have missed the bike being outdoors.

This summer since I am probably not going to be running much, we are going to try some hiking instead. I have a Christmas gift certificate to Dick’s and I am going to buy a pair of hiking boots. We have a lot of nice mountains here in the Adirondacks as long we avoid black fly season!

    1. Lisa Eirene

There’s a black fly SEASON? Ick! Do I even want to know what they do?

Do you have an REI in your area? Their hiking boots are great. I have a few pairs.

We actually got back in to the exercise regime at the HARDEST time – the dead of winter, in the midst of a bunch of holidays. I’m soooo looking forward to being able to regularly run outside and take the pup hiking and get some vitamin D! We are planning on going hiking every other Friday, weather permitting obviously.

Good for you guys! My fitness doesn’t really diminish in the winter time but I do switch to other activities. I’d much rather hike/bike/run in NICE weather…

While all those things look like so much fun, here in Florida we have to take our work outs inside during the summer. It just gets too hot (except for swimming of course).

However I did some hiking during our cool season this year, and really want to find smoe more places to go in the fall.

This summer, you have really inpired to start a weight lifting program. So that is what I am going to work on this summer while the weather is too hot for much else.

    1. Lisa Eirene

That is so cool that I inspired you to start weight lifting! I love it!

It’s interesting that you bring up tennis. Tennis is something that my husband and I used to play all the time, but last summer during marathon training I thought tennis would be too much of an injury risk so I put a nix on tennis. In a weird way, this post has helped me think of another reason not to run a fall marathon this year, WHICH IS GOOD, so thank you. πŸ™‚

Isn’t it funny how the things we really enjoy go by the wayside when running/training/racing is involved?
