A Return of a Favorite

Sunday night dinner was an easy one. With my Achilles Boot on it makes it difficult to stand for extended period of times without feeling back pain so I couldn’t try any new recipes this weekend. Instead I picked up a steak for dinner. A Tri-Tip steak this time. Last week’s steak was a bit on the chewy side, so I hoped this different cut would be better.

I marinated the steak in Merlot, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce.

I tossed in some spices and minced garlic:

I let the steak marinade for about 3 hours (mostly because I got caught up in watching Colin Firth movies on Netflix and forgot to get the steak going).

Sunday night we brought back an old favorite. It’s been too long since we’ve had Gnocchi.

A serving of gnocchi is 3/4 of a cup each. I measured out 2 cups total for us (it’s a difficult item to measure accurately). I sipped on some wine while we cooked.

It’s been too long since we’ve cooked with pesto and I’m glad Michael grabbed some from Costco.

I steamed some broccoli to go along with dinner while Michael grilled the steaks.

According to some internet research Tri Tip steak is the perfect steak for grilling and I agree with that. I am very pleased with how dinner turned out.

The steak was juicy, tender and delicate. I loved it! The marinade was delicious too.

I mixed my gnocchi and steamed broccoli together with the pesto to coat everything.

If you haven’t tried the combination of pesto and steak–DO IT! It is so tasty!

The final verdict: Tri Tip is excellent. We watched the new Top Chef All-Stars while we ate dinner. I am so glad the show is back! Plus they have a bunch of my favorites on the show too. In my opinion, Season 5 New York was by far the best season of Top Chef. Las Vegas is a close second.

Dessert was vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge syrup. We watch the finale of The Walking Dead. I’m bummed the season is over already. AMC has another winner, for sure!

QUESTION: What is your favorite cut of steak? And are you watching Top Chef All Stars?

Oh Fudge It!

I had Thursday off from work–which was perfect timing because I was battling a full-fledged cold. Yuck. πŸ™ Fat Kitty loves it when I stay home from work. He becomes my shadow and follows me around the house. I slept in, cuddling with this cute monster:

It was short lived. The Other Cat started crying. She doesn’t want to be petted, she just wants to cry. SIGH. Alright, I’ll get up. My day was pretty productive. I cleaned the house, did laundry, went swimming, ran errands. I stopped by the house to shuffle the laundry and eat a salad and the other half of my blackened salmon for lunch. Then back out to run errands. Why is that days off end up being days spent running errands? Oh well…

When Michael got home he said he was in a bad mood and wanted comfort food. Ham and Grilled Cheese it is!

I went to the store to get some comfort food to cheer him up. I’m such a good girlfriend. πŸ˜‰ I got his favorites:

Tortilla chips and Coca Cola (not for me). And ice cream.

Oh, and Lottery Tickets. πŸ˜‰

There were two winners too! I’m glad Michael won some money on the scratch-its after a bad day at work. I also picked up a loaf of Dave’s Killer Bread for dinner.

I made the grilled and ham cheese sandwiches (using less ham on mine–slicing one piece in half instead of using 1.5 slices like on Michael’s).

They were the perfect comfort food items.

I ate half a pickle and a serving of tortilla chips with my sandwich. It tasted like A Better Mood, for sure.

I also indulged and ate one of the ice creams. They are tricky because while they are small–it’s really 2 servings not one. I still ate the whole thing. πŸ™ BURP. πŸ™ Oh well….If you’re gonna be bad, be REALLY bad….

I added one spoonful of chocolate fudge to the top!

Yes, it was the magical chocolate fudge from Carbzilla! And it was absolutely amazing. I did not heat it up and just got one spoonful from the jar. I just wanted to give it a try. πŸ˜‰

It was absolutely divine. I will try it heated up next time. The best part? It was only 45 calories!
