Last Meal

I recently finished reading the book “Life After Death” by Damien Echols. If you’re unfamiliar with the name, he was one of the West Memphis 3 that was wrongly imprisoned for 18 years. Damien was the only one of the three boys that was on Death Row. The book will make you sad and angry at the same time. The injustices are unfair and hard to read. But that’s not what this post is about, this is Β more light-hearted and fun.

Last Meal

What would your last meal be?

Looking at some famous “last meals” it seems that people go for comfort food – fried chicken, pizza, ice cream and cheeseburgers. I totally get that. If it’s your last day on earth, why would you eat a salad? (Although, I do love salads…)

It got me thinking. If I knew it was my last day on earth, what would I want to eat? Back in the day when I was obese I would have said a tub of chocolate mint ice cream, homemade chocolate chip cookies and pizza. I’d like to think that my tastes and preferences have evolved over the years, but that still sounds pretty damn good.

I want my last meal to be at Craftsteak. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in the world and happens to be in one of my favorite cities, too. Vegas!

Craftsteak is Tom Collichio’s restaurant (from Top Chef) and although Michael and I went the first time years ago as kind of stalker-fans, we quickly realized that the food was absolutely amazing.

I don’t have a very good photo of their amazing steaks from my collection (above is from the internet) Β but trust me, one of the best I’ve ever had. And those rolls are addicting. I could eat all of them on my own. They are fluffy and hot and dusted with salt and butter on top. Everything I’ve ordered at Craftsteak has been delicious. I mean, just look at my happy face:

That is ecstasy, my friends, ecstasy. Amazing food. So yeah…my last meal would be a steak from Craftsteak, a huge bottle of their best red wine (and maybe even one of their super strong martinis), a pan of those rolls, asparagus and…for dessert…I think I’ll go with something from a local restaurant:

Papa Haydn’s. The best desserts in Portland. Β I have never had a bad dessert there. Their Bourbon Ball is devilishly delicious. The cheesecake makes me melt. Man, now I really want to eat all of that stuff!

QUESTION: What would your last meal be?

Having Dinner with Dexter Morgan

Are you catching up on weekend reading? (I know I am–I have over 500 things in my Google Reader!) Here’s the weekend recap:

Had a delicious dinner Friday night.

Tried a new move at the gym.

Lots and lots of baking.

Decorating cookies.

Shelby over at Eat Drink Run tagged me in her post. Normally I don’t do it but I loved the questions so here goes:

1. Name one movie you’d never watch again even if someone paid you.

Anything STAR WARS. I know I’ll get a hail storm of hate mail on this topic but I cannot stand the Star Wars series. The original movies, the new ones…yuck. It breaks Michael’s heart because I’ll never watch them. Sorry, babes!

2. Name 5 fictional characters you want to have dinner with. And TELL ME WHY.

  1. King Arthur. I love everything Arthurian legend. I really believe I was born in the wrong time period! The costumes, the chivalry, the Knights…I love it all.
  2. Indiana Jones. I love the movies (not the most recent of course) and I loved the adventure of it. Meeting archeologist/adventurist would be cool!
  3. Ironman. I’m noticing a theme in my list…I like Hero Men apparently. πŸ™‚ I love the Ironman movies. And Robert Downey Jr isn’t too bad to look at.
  4. Dr. House. Funny, ironic, cruel and he makes me laugh. I love how smart and sharp-tongued he is.
  5. Dexter Morgan. I am so fascinated by the character. I’m a very black and white person when it comes to morals…but for some reason Dexter seems heroic. Maybe because he’s killing the scum of society that our justice systems misses?

3. Give me a race on your β€œmust do” list.

The Las Vegas Half Marathon. I love Vegas. I’d hoped to run it this year and then got injured. πŸ™ I feel like it’s something I must do in my life!

4. Any races you’ve done that you will never ever do again? Why?

Hood to Coast. I am actually working on a post about this topic.

5. Cake vs. Pie: Your pick?

PIE. All the way. Pumpkin pie, apple pie, raspberry pie. I love it all!

6. Last meal – what would it be? AND YOU ARE ON DEATH ROW SO MAKE IT CREATIVE.

This is a good one.

Thickcrusted Pizza–black olives and pepperoni

Raspberry cheesecake

Chocolate Chip Mint ice cream

Strawberries

Fried Chicken

Mashed Potatoes with Gravy

Oy. My stomach hurts just thinking about it!

7. Favorite book to movie adaptation ever? Least favorite?

Easy one:Β  Wuthering Heights with Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes.Β  Love him.Β  Wuthering Heights is my all-time favorite romantic books. Tragic, but lovely.

Least favorite…Lovely Bones. I loved the book. The book was gripping, tragic and heartbreaking but the movie really fell short of the book. It was a big disappointment for me.

8. Vacation: beach or mountains?

That’s a hard one. My first choice would probably be the mountains. I love hiking and nature. One of my favorite road trips was from Portland to Montana. Glacier National Park was a magical place.

Glacier Park

But if my choice of beach was somewhere tropical with an umbrella drink…I’d say beach. πŸ˜‰

And I’m tagging Tiffany, Leah, Kristina and Kate!

QUESTION: How would answer those questions?
