I’m a boredom/avoidance eater more than a stress eater, I think. When I’m truly stressed, I can’t eat. But I have that same problem that I want to eat while I’m cooking! Like I’m so impatient I can’t wait 20 minutes? I get so annoyed with myself!

You’ll laugh but my WW buddy called me yesterday to say “OMFG, I just ate a HUGE cupcake!!! What is wrong with me?!?!?!” I just told her there was no quitting and to jump back on the bandwagon. That’s all you can do because today is a NEW day.

Isn’t World Market the greatest place ever? It’s a major trigger place for me so I have to be careful. Think how much worse it could have been though – you’re lucky you didn’t drive home with a huge bag of Swedish fish and some hazelnut cookies too!

I could literally buy everything in World Market and be happy!

I’m both a boredom eater and stress eater. But I do notice when I’m sick that I go back to comfort foods like cookies/ice cream/pizza etc…

It’s one day and honestly I hadn’t eaten breakfast or any snacks throughout the day (just lunch and dinner) so I’m not too worried. I just knew better than to eat those cupcakes!

I am definitely a stress and also impulse eater. I try to leave a little wiggle room for when I want to have a treat so I still have the points to have one. I deal with stress eating normally by planning my day, but again allowing for a little indulgence. Also, getting out and going for a walk or just distracting myself can work really well too.

Yep…being out at the doctor/pharmacy and store made it so I didn’t stress eat at home as much. Probably saved me a ton of calories.

Your post really sounds like how I have been feeling this whole week. I get stressed when my boyfriend is stressed and I look for comfort in food. It really isn’t good. You have lost so much so you know that it is about the long term so don’t worry too much.

By the way, the salmon dish looks fantastic. Yum!

Usually when Michael is stressed I can switch over to being “The Rock” and be supportive and not stressed. This week just didn’t go well. Probably because I was sick. πŸ™

I have been a stress eater. I also ate when I am too hungry, angry lonely or tired. To break this cycle I needed to reach out to others who understand and will not say “oh, just this one time didn’t hurt.” or “Wait I’ll join you, order two.”

I have people who I can call and email who will talk with me about the stress so I can get through it without eating over it. If I do not choose to reach out and instead pick up something I should not be eating I am hurting myself and once that cycle starts . . .

Stress eating is like eating poison and expecting the other person/place or thing to die instead of you.

For me it helps to have plan what I am going to eat each day and eat only what I plan. It can be tough but it is easier than fitting 385 pounds into a movie theater seat. It is easier than trying to explain to my children why the other kids are laughing at their mommy. It is easier than trying to get my formerly-massive butt out of a chair and into the gym.

Well written, thank you for sharing…Normally I have an eating plan and don’t deviate too much from it. Plus I keep some extra calories open to have treats or splurges. It’s those moments that sneak up on you when you’re not expecting it is hard!

Glad you have a support system!

      1. Jane

We support each other. Whether it is on the phone or on these blogs – together we get better.

I find that when I am sick – my appetite gets all strange and I crave sugar and comfort food. Try not to beat yourself up over it πŸ™‚

I’m definitely a stress eater! Whenever I’m sad or stressed or lonely, I eat. The thing is, from what I can tell from following your blog, you rarely, rarely eat desserts mindlessly like you did this time. So relax! I doubt you did much damage. We all over-indulge once in awhile and it won’t be the end of our diet/healthy eating success. Just make better choices today and the next day, and that one bad day will melt away!

    1. Lisa Eirene

You are very right…I don’t eat mindlessly that often so one day isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things…

Pei pa koa is pretty decent cough medicine (from herbal as I remembered), great non alcoholic medicine, some western cough medicine are more effective, but this is non drowsy.

more like stress eating done AWESOME. I beat you: I ate half a sleeve of frozen thin mints last night after dinner. Now THAT is stress eating. But you’re disciplined and you’ll balance it out, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
