That’s not just any snake–that’s an Arizona diamondback rattler! YIKES! I am glad that thing is dead. Scary!!

I am SO EXCITED that you got such an amazing run in. Your pace was fantastic!!

Are you freakin’ kidding me?!?!?!?!! I saw a Rattler?! WOW! Thank god it was dead. Holy crap!

I am so excited about my run too! The pace was great! It was PRE-INJURY PACE!!!!!!!:D

YAAAY ! I am so excited for your run – and YES I definitely can imagine the stoked-ness. 🙂 they are still few and far between, but every now and then I have a great run. I’m gettin’ there! your time was FANTASTIC, for not really running much lately! I really am SO happy for you!

I used to live at Sunriver Resort – high desert country – and that was when I was still a runner… I’d run 15+ miles day several days a week. I remember people telling me it would be difficult at first because of the altitude, but I think I was used to it from skiing.

I’m not afraid of snakes… I’d probably be startled to see that, but… when I was a kid I held a HUGE albino python at OMSI once – it was cool! 🙂

    spiders, though? that’s another story.

    1. Lisa Eirene

Spiders terrify me. Snakes? I can handle. That one just startled me!

I am SOOO happy about my run and the pace. I had planned to eventually take the running outside–but go slow. I was going to run the track near my house in 1 mile increments to test my body. But honestly I’m glad I just went for it. I feel 100% happier about life in general. This doesn’t mean I’ll be running tons, or doing races again, but just having the option is NICE!

I’ve only been to Bend and Sunriver in the winter time. I’d like to go down there this summer and take our bikes, maybe do some running and hiking. Fun!

    1. Lisa Eirene

It did!!!! It felt absolutely amazing.

  3. Susan

You can’t see it, but I just gave you a giant high five. I’m SO happy and proud for you!!!

    1. Lisa Eirene

Thanks Susan!!! You guys can’t see it but I’ve been grinning ear-to-ear since last week! 😀

  4. Groff's Girl

YAY!!! Way to go on your awesome run! That must have really felt amazing to get out there and be able to enjoy the run without pain or worry!!! I have been having leg issues (shin) but I am thinking it will be okay! I love the desert sunsets, we used to get some gorgeous ones in Vegas as well!!!! Congrats again on running and NOT getting attacked by that scary snake!!!! 🙂

    1. Lisa Eirene

I bet the Vegas sunset is nice. Sadly I’ve never seen one because I’m usually inside. LOL

  5. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin

I am petrified of snakes!! I’m so impressed you just jumped over it and kept running.

and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m so happy that you were able to run outside pain-free! You look awesome with your post-run glow!

Aw, this post made me smile! You totally rocked that run – congrats!

I would be all over exploring that biodome thingy. Sounds fascinating.

    1. Lisa Eirene

Thank you Shelby! It was the highlight of the trip.

The Biodome was great. I wish we could have spent more time exploring inside.

Congrats on the run! It looks like it was a memorable vacation all around!

I’m not particularly afraid of snakes, but last summer I was walking on a 4-mile trail near a river wear I live, and a little garter snake slithered out of the grass and straight into my path. I nearly brought my foot right down on it before I registered what I was seeing. At which point, I screamed and jumped about a foot in the air. Luckily, my friend saw it so she didn’t think I was crazy, but everyone we passed who was within ear shot or view of my little dance gave me the stink-eye when they passed!

    1. Lisa Eirene

HA!! That’s the EXACT move I made. Jumped a few extra feet in the air WHILE I was running, squealed and then yelled “Snake.” LOL

I was just thinking about how crazy itd be if you saw a snack and bam! There one is! I am so afraid of snakes I would of ran all the way back to Iowa.

    1. Lisa Eirene

Snakes aren’t something I like but I don’t have a reaction to them like I do spiders. If I’d seen a tarantula on my run I would have been comatose!

Glad to see you had a great time in Tucson! I live here, and I’ve still never made it up to the Biosphere! Running outside in the winter is great, but in the summer you pretty much have to run EARLY in the morning, or you’ll pass out ^_^

    1. Lisa Eirene

When I was there it was in the 90’s. I imagine MOST people are early AM runners. I definitely would be!
