We are too far away to have had any impacts, but relatives in the Northeast just had a lot of rain and wind. I hope one of those taping methods works for your knee!

Glad to hear you didn’t get any effects!

Yay for the knee taping, the pain free run and a delicious looking recipe. I agree, the images from back east are awful. Mother Nature is pissed off, she’s huricaning (good word) on the east side of the continent, and shaking the area north of us (in Haida Gwaii) with a 7.7 earthquake and aftershocks. sigh. May we all stay safe. Have a good Wednesday Lisa.

It’s absolutely devastating. And the news isn’t really covering much on Haiti and the Carribean. Lots of death and destruction. I hope everyone is ok.

A source of fresh water that no one thinks about – the tank for your toilet. It is waiting to be used, so is clean. Here in NZ civil defence is a huge thing because of all the earthquakes we get and could get. I spent a month last term teaching my class how to survive in a natural disaster!

Good tip! Gross, but in a pinch it works.

Chris has become a bit of a prepper – having been through Sept 11 and the NYC blackout. My best tip: you can get the big jugs of Arrowhead water for $1. We pick up a couple every time we see them.

NPR is doing profiles of those who lost their lives throughout the day. So sad.

How long does the water keep, do you think?

You guys have been through a lot, so I’m sure you’ve learned your lesson to be prepared.

We had a huge earthquake in my city about 18 months ago, and the two things that many people had issues with was cars trapped in the central business area (which was cordoned off for weeks), so drive out of the area if you can, and make sure you can take anything that is important from the car if you can’t move it. It could be there for 3 months. Really.

Wow, that’s devastating! I agree, drive away. If something made us evacuate Portland, I’m packing my car with whatever I can grab and my cats and driving to Seattle to my parent’s house.

I’m from NJ and my family is still there even though I’m in Chicago. Today is Wednesday and they are still without power. It’s devastating to see the Jersey Shore – beaches and boardwalks where I spent my childhood and teen and college years – completely destroyed. Even when they rebuild those areas they will never hold the charm they once did. And so many people lost their homes and livelihoods. Luckily my family did not sustain any damage but today is Day 4 of no power and it sucks big time.

Some friends on the East coast have been told it could be weeks that they don’t have power! I cannot imagine that!! I hope your family is ok and it doesn’t last that long!
