I am definitely still redefining my relationship with food, but it is getting easier. It took training for a marathon to make me realize that food is fuel and better fuel = better results. It’s getting easier, but there are still some days that are a struggle.

That is so great that you are learning the food-fuel thing. Training for events definitely does that.

Do I eat to feel better, for stress relief? Yes, I certainly do, don’t know if I will ever be completely rid of that habit. I try to keep a lot of other, healthier stress relief outlets in my life, primarily exercise, though of course there are so many others, like talking with a friend.

Sounds like you have a good set of outlets for stress. I also use exercise or relief. Friends, taking some downtime helps me too.

This is a huge struggle for me as well. I’ve tried journaling and eating intuitively. Too often, I find myself fixating on what I’m not “allowed” to eat or “should not” eat 🙁

Oh that’s hard! That’s how it was for me when I was trying to lose the weight. It was hard NOT to see food as something to restrict!

Great article 🙂 My relationship with food is always changing… I definitely struggle with emotional eating. Right now I’m working on eating a lot more fruits and veggies and fueling my body with healthy things that make it feel good. But I try not to label foods as good or bad—there’s room for even a decadent treat now and then. The longer I do this, the easier it is 🙂

Is the emotional eating triggers due to stress, anxiety, etc? I’m just curious. For me it’s stress–rarely sadness or anxiety.
