beach weekend

Beachy Birthday

So this is 39!

For my birthday this year we made the trek to Depoe Bay to spend the weekend at an AirBnB house at the beach with friends. I’ve been looking forward to it for months! Saturday I went to the gym and then we packed the car and left after lunch.

The house we rented was SO GREAT!!!! It was called the “OctoMojo House” and it was a block from the beach with amazing views of the giant winter waves. There was a nice deck (which would be great in the summer time) and a hot tub and you could hear the ocean. The house had two bedrooms on the main floor and then a loft bedroom upstairs with even better views.

We unpacked and our friends, Sam and John, hadn’t arrived yet so we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go for a walk on the beach!

You think Logan and Bella were having fun in the sand?!?! It was kinda gray and cold but it was dry so that’s all that mattered! We walked and ran and got super dirty. Then started to walk back to the house.

Our friends arrived and we made dinner. Pork tenderloin they had been marinating all day in lemon, ginger, soy sauce and garlic. It was delicious! We had salad and couscous, too. And fancy Trader Joe’s cheese with crackers while we cooked.

And opened a bottle of wine I’ve been saving for almost a year:

After Logan went to bed, the four of us got to chill out in the hot tub and listen to the ocean and just catch up on life. It was nice! And relaxing. I loved being able to hear the waves. And smelling the ocean air.

Sunday was a lazy day. It was stormy and rainy and the waves were even bigger. Breakfast was delicious omelettes made by Michael and Samantha. I actually got to enjoy my coffee while it was HOT. 😀

Then Logan and I went for a little walk outside in the drizzle.

Sam and I drove up to Lincoln City to Mo’s to pick up takeout lunch. It was nice to get away for a bit and have some time just the two of us. We got an order of Mo’s famous clam chowder and an order of clam strip appetizers.

I’ve wanted to try Mo’s for years but the lines are SO LONG we never go. I’m glad we finally got to try it! It was delicious! Creamy and tasty and hot on a dreary day. After lunch Logan took a nap, I took a short nap and then chilled with some hot tea and a good book. 🙂 Eventually there was a little break in the rain and Logan was still sleeping so Bella and I went for a walk on the beach just the two of us. It was nice!

Sunday night dinner was made by Samantha, with me helping prep the veggies. I brought chicken thighs and she brought the stuff to make an AMAZING curry dish! All fresh ingredients. She even showed me how to use fresh ginger (which has always intimidated me so I never bought it, now I want to try it!).

We opened some wine, turned on some great music and hung out in the kitchen while the boys did their thing in the living room. Then dinner was served. Curry chicken and veggies on top of mashed potatoes! SO good! Topped with fresh cilantro and green onion.

After dinner, Logan ran laps through the house 😉 and then went to bed and we played a few rounds of my new Family Feud board game (super fun!), more hot tubbing and then to bed for the great night of sleep I’ve had in awhile. Breakfast the next morning:

Scrambled eggs with green onions and diced jalapenos, bacon, topped with cheese, a side of toast and fruit salad. Monday the weather was just perfect. There was blue sky and rainbows.

I love the beach. Year round, doesn’t matter the weather. Stormy, sunny, whatever. The beach is in my blood. Someday, I will live at the beach. 🙂

Babymoon Part 2 & A Birthday

I’m really glad we took a weekend to celebrate us and the upcoming big change in our life. It was a time for being together just the two of us, talking about hopes and fears and thinking about what our little guy will be like. It was a good opportunity to talk about all the things we’re going to have to deal with and make choices about once we have a kid. I think it was a good weekend to reconnect and bond before things change drastically!

The hotel we were staying in had a gas fireplace. It was nice and romantic and cozy. Just laying in bed early in the morning with the ocean waves and the glow of the fireplace…I could have stayed there forever. But I was starting to get hungry and we had things to do and a puppy to get home to! Another photo of Bella’s weekend:

She’s so cute. 😉

For breakfast we drove to a teeny town called Neskowin, a few miles south of Pacific City just before you get to Lincoln city. The Cafe on Hawk Creek had excellent reviews and I am so glad we went because it turned out to be a nice little gem in the middle of nowhere. Great service, cute place and the food was absolutely excellent. Michael got the huevos rancheros and said they were wonderful. I got the French Toast again. I know, I know. Not the best option but…they sounded so good and I’m really glad I got them because it was one of the best French Toasts I’ve had!

The food was fabulous, the coffee was great. This is definitely a place we’ll go back to for breakfast when we are on the coast. You wouldn’t think a little restaurant in a teeny tiny town would be so wonderful but it was. What a nice find! And we had a visitor watching us while we ate:

The waitress said there was a walkway to the beach right next to the restaurant so after eating we strolled down the walkway and discovered a wonderfully hidden little beach.

The sun was out, it wasn’t too windy and it wasn’t raining. It was a bit on the chilly side but it was still a nice walk on the beach.

Here is a bump photo–31 weeks at the beach!

I was happy to be able to practice using my new camera that Michael got me for Christmas. The beach is the perfect place to experiment with a camera.

After walking around a bit it was time to turn back. I was sad to leave the beach, especially since it was finally a nice day! But I was also anxious to get home to our fur babies.

When we got home Bella was SO mopey!! This usually happens after spending the weekend with Amy. I know Bella really wishes she had a playmate. Someday I hope we can get another dog but right now is definitely not the best time, and our house isn’t big enough for two adults, a baby, a dog, and two cats. Our yard is huge and perfect for two dogs though. Oh well. So we deal with Miss Mopey Dog for a few days and then she snaps out of it. She seriously moped on the couch with sad puppy dog eyes all day long.

Monday when we got home I went the gym for a quick workout, had a chiropractor appointment for my SI/back/hip and then snuggled with my fur babies.

Birthday

I was honestly feeling kind of blah about my birthday this year. I don’t know why. I was definitely blah the last two weeks. Lots of crap and stress and the body issues had me feeling down. Going to the beach and relaxing was a nice way to reset everything. But Tuesday came, I hadn’t slept well the night before, it was raining, I was running late and had to go to work. I usually take my birthday off from work and do something nice for myself–either we go out of town or I take the day off to do something fun. This year I’m saving up all my time I can for maternity leave so…into work I went. Blah!

I did get a massage after work, though. That was nice! When I got home I saw this:

Beautiful flowers and a card from my hubby! And he cooked this delicious dinner for us:

Blackened salmon, sauteed kale and sweet potatoes. It was just what I was craving for dinner. And he surprised me with cheesecake for dessert. We shared this giant slice:

I had been craving cheesecake for awhile and this was a nice treat.
