Gooood job reining it in! I had to do the same thing myself several times last weekend. The portion sizes at restaurants are massive and could feed three people. So I have to listen to my body for signals of fullness, and look down and realize I CANNOT finish this plate. It helps! But I do steadfastly resent the hell out of restaurants for doing it.

I totally get that! It’s hard when you’re out socially and having a great time…it’s easy to just keep eating! I definitely felt like I was bordering on eating too much Saturday night. I did well for the dinner, but my downfall was the grazing!

OMG, that racing looks like SOOOO much fun!!! It is indeed tough to navigate buffets isn’t it? Sounds like you made excellent choices. Have a great week Lisa.

      It was super fun!

Potlucks and buffets are the hardest for me!

Buffets and potlucks are my major issues, and I think any unattended, unportioned food should be considered a buffet (like the chips and salsa at the Mexican restaurants, or a bread basket). To be on my best behavior it is best that I just stay away from buffets and potlucks.

I did have to take my sons to a birthday party this weekend and there was food out the whole time to eat. Fortunately, most of it was healthy stuff like fruit and veggies, but there were hotdogs, deli sandwiches, and chips that were talking to me. I chose to go with the grilled chicken legs, which was a good choice.

That’s a good analogy…chips and salsa/breadsticks etc are totally buffet. Especially when the waiters replace them every five minutes with more. It’s hard to say no. Sometimes I will tell them not to refill anything. It’s hard but it helps.

It sounds like you made good choices! Good for you!

Sometimes if I know I have a party like that coming up, I just give myself permission to eat whatever I want. That way I don’t feel guilty about it and I’m not constantly thinking about food at the party. I know that moments like those are rare for me and not how I normally eat, so the chance of it affecting my weight in a huge (pun intended) way is pretty minimal. I don’t know if that’s the best way to go about it, because it definitely triggers some feelings of binge eating, but right now for me that’s the best way to deal with it.

I think that’s a great way to look at it. It sounds like a healthier attitude to have, Jodi. I’ll try to remember that next time I’m faced with a buffet.
