I’m about to show my mom how much I care this week- her birthday is on Saturday and i’ve spent about 3 hours so far (and not even done..) working on homemade marzipan for her. Hopefully it tastes authentic. ๐Ÿ™‚

      That’s a good one! I’ve never had marzipan before…

    2. When it comes to showing how much you care, I think the details, the little things, are much more important than the occasional grand gesture. Be it picking up a food item you know your significant other has been craving, or DVRing a movie or documentary you know they’ve been wanting to see, or regularly showing affection via touch (hands on the back, fingers in the hair, holding hands, etc). The daily reinforcement is huge. It promotes closeness and intimacy that clearly communicates love ๐Ÿ™‚
    3. Holidays: Normally it’s the change in routine. Overeating at big meals doesn’t pose nearly the challenge the change in my workout frequency does. Getting back on track can be a struggle.

I agree with you that it’s the small things! Michael has said several times that it’s the little stuff I do around the house (like picking up leaves, doing all the laundry, etc) that he appreciates. It doesn’t have to be a big gesture. I agree that the daily reinforcement is key.

As long as I can stay on track with my workouts, I rarely suffer with the holiday “bulge.” I hope that this holiday season is the same.

The hardest challenge of the Holiday season for me is the pie. I love Pumpkin pie and every other kind of desert there is. I have learned over the years that you can have everything in moderation. I choose the one (or two if I have small pieces) that I want the most and stick with them.

I’m with you, Ashlee. Desserts have always been the challenge for me too. I am glad they make those “mini” pumpkin pies now! It’s perfect for us since we aren’t having people over.

I showed my mom how much I care by taking a day off from work last week to ride with her to the hospital to see her dad (my grandfather). The hospital is 2.5 hours away and she had no one to go with her. I did not want her to make the trip alone. It was nice to see my grandfather too.

That is really nice, I bet she appreciated it a great deal!

    2. I made my boyfriend his favorite cookies just because.

    3. The most difficult thing about the holiday season is that it can be so unpredictable. I like to keep to a strict exercise schedule, but traveling over the holidays makes it near impossible.

      What kind of cookies?

Agreed. Traveling makes it hard, and guilt trips from family members who want to spend time with you but you want to get out for a quick run…

For me, food has always been the issue, not really the exercise. So I struggle more with temptations.
